Since I was little, I always loved looking at my mum and dad’s wedding video. I used to go through her old photos all the time — when they were young, falling in love, building a home, having me and then my brothers. I was obsessed. I’d watch videos of myself as a little girl and wonder what I was thinking, what I was feeling. I’d ask about my great-grandparents. Who were they? What were their lives like? I just wanted to hold onto every piece of it.

Now, slowly, I’m losing those people. All my great-grandparents are gone. My grandfather too. He meant the world to me. Just before cancer changed everything, I took a photo of him with my grandma. He was still full of life. I even filmed them dancing — rock and roll, then slow dancing at Christmas.

Little did I know that it would be his last one. But now, that video, and those photos means everything to me.

After that, I started seeing photos differently. They’re not just pictures. They’re memories. Feelings. Proof that something beautiful happened. If my mum hadn’t taken all those photos when I was little, I don’t think I’d remember what those days felt like.
